We can start our story by saying that "necessity is the mother of invention." We wanted to build an Internet radio controlled by remote control for a person who is visually impaired. The device was created with Raspberry Pi, Mopidy and a plugin we created. Other features, such as voice control, weather forecast, Wikipedia, music, radio, audiobooks, and podcasts have appeared over time. We are constantly developing capabilities and adding more services to our device.
When the voice-controlled radio was finally working, we were able to focus on the sound. To improve the quality of audio content we have decided to integrate the device with a full-range driver. First, we started with one, but we quickly realized that two drivers with passive diaphragms are the best option. After trying many materials in different shapes, we decided to use one piece of wood to make the enclosure.
When the prototype of our speaker was finished, we started working on a web app with a responsive, user-friendly interface. With this app, you can set up your device, add new services, play music and manage your audio library. Our goal is to enable easy and intuitive use, so you can manage your speaker from any device with a web browser.
The enclosure was designed similarly to LEGO blocks and one set is made of three independent modules. Thanks to this unique solution you can use your device exactly how you want it- as a soundbar speaker, a monitor speaker or as a mini computer connected to your hi-fi set or TV (using digital HDMI output).
We have known each other for many years and we like working together. We decided to make a perfect intelligent speaker and it looks like we succeeded!
